SHFE Post-doctorate Program was officially launched on 8 July, 2003.
"SHFE aims to build a regulated, efficent, transparent marketplace, on which a variety of products, especially financial derivatives, can be traded. This program offers both domestic and foreign experts a platform for them to conduct researches on financial derivatives. That better deploys SHFE’s resources to financial derivatives exploration and at the same time reserves talents of high caliber for the exchange and helps achieve the strategic goals of the exchange." Said Mr. Jiang Yang, chief executive officer of Shanghai Futures Exchange.
"SHFE Post-doctorate Program is highly consistent with the exchange’s needs in pursuing its growth, "said Professor Jiang Boke, executive deputy dean of Finance Institute, Fudan University. He suggested this successful model be applied to a broader range of fields.
Mr. Wang Shaochang, vice director of Personnel Bureau of Shanghai municipal government, said that under this program talented financial professionals and researchers could receive a more targeted training. That would contribute to the construction of Shanghai into a financial hub.
Mr. Liu Hongru, former Chairman of CSRC, maintained that the reforms in China’s capital markets highlighted the importance of developing financial derivative markets like debt futures. The postdoctoral fellows should maintain an innovating spirit and pratical methodology to conduct their researches.
With six fellows under the program, so far a series of research work on financial engineering has been initiated which covers financial futures volatility, correlation between financial derivatives and capital markets development, risk management on natural rubber futures trading, risk management on stock index futures, pricing of interest rate futures and development of copper options.
