The “2014 China IMCI (Industrial Metal Commodity Index) Futures and Commodity Futures ETF Forum”, which was hosted by Jinrui Futures and supported by the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE), was held in Shenzhen on November 1. Over 120 experts from the SHFE, China Futures Margin Monitoring Center (CFMMC), futures companies, securities companies, fund companies, banks, insurance companies, and relevant enterprises attended the forum. Dang Jian, Deputy CEO of the SHFE, attended and delivered a speech.

Dang Jian said that this year is the second year of the SHFE’s “2nd Five-Year Plan” and “Driven by Innovation and Developing through Transformation” is the main development line of the SHFE in the future several years. The SHFE will continue to promote the listing and trading of its IMCI futures, greatly support various institutions to develop asset management products and risk management tools related to the commodity index. According to the different demands of funds, securities traders, and futures companies, the SHFE will provide services in data information and index formulation, so as to create conditions for investment institutions to further participate in the commodity market. He said that within the global arena, the commodity ETF is gradually becoming a strategic configuration tool for the asset management industry, and China’s commodity futures ETF will also have a bright future.

Lu Ganping, General Manager of Jinrui Futures, said that the commodity indexing investment has become a mainstream international method for investors to participate in the commodity futures market. At present, the indexing investment of Chinese commodity is still at the initial stage. However, under the joint promotion of relevant parties in recent years, the development of commodity indexing investment in China has been accelerated remarkably. In particular, as the China Securities Regulatory Commission is to release the “No. 1 Operation Guide of Publically Collecting Securities Investment Fund” soon, the era of commodity indexing investment has come.

Wu Wenhao from the Information Planning Department of the CFMMC introduced the real-time index futures which are drawn up by the CFMMC with product design as the final goal. He said that as the market attention on commodity index has been increasing, the CFMMC hopes to form a joint force with all market parties, thus striving to realize the early appearance of commodity index futures and commodity futures ETF.
